Very informative. There are visual images of what our deficit looks like in physical terms. I cannot even image. No wonder politician act like it is Monopoly money!

We are doing this...

http://www.gorgeheroesclub.blogspot.com/

We are going to leave Mike with his guys, in the form of a gnome, since he cannot go with them.  I am sure they will have great pictures when they get back.  We might do the Homey gnome too and send pictures to the guys.  Should we give each platoon of Mike's a gnome, total of 4?  Or should we just send one for the entire company?

I LOVE our bank-USAA!!!!!!

Look what our bank is doing for the debt ceiling crisis:

Who?
How We Can Help
Active-duty military personnel, including activated Guard & Reserves

Temporary Payroll Advance Program to eligible members serving on active duty, including those actively serving in the Guard and Reserve, who have their existing DFAS payroll deposited into a USAA checking or savings account. This is a one-time loan for payroll scheduled for deposit on Aug. 15.
Waive property and casualty insurance policy late fees or bank nonsufficient fund fees and suspend nonpayment cancellations for members who are on active duty, including those actively serving the Guard and Reserve, for 30 days where legally permitted.

Also, someone lifted my debit card information and made two purchases. We noticed immediately after the first purchase. Thanks to our banks free text messages for all transactions. We withdrew all our money (but $14). Amazingly, the thief managed to make a $7 on-line purchase. I can imagine how many times they had to run the card to reach $7! Our bank was great about the entire thing. We are getting our money back, a new card for me, and suggestions on protecting ourselves in the future. I know the whole don't let your card leave your eyes, but that is very hard to do in restaurants and even a drive-thru. Just a note, the thief often uses paper and a crayon to do a rub of your card and they get the three-digit security card off the back too. Be careful and watch your accounts. I am sure they were waiting until we got paid to make a large purchase; everyone here knows when the military gets paid and that USAA is a military bank. Thank goodness for the free text messages or else we would have been surprised on payday morning!

I love USAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Life lessons

Poor bird! Our dog, Fury, got ahold of this poor little guy. Mackenzie was outside when Fury brought the bird to her. She screamed and cried for Mike to help. They wanted to take the bird to the vet. We settled on some food and water. We explained that Fury is just acting the way God created her. We talked about life cycles and compassion. They are also learning about hope; they are praying and hoping for a miracle.

And they want to cut military spending/pay...

From an article on Fox News concering Federal spending for the month of August (just an excerpt of spending):

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (the Clinton-era welfare office, estimated to cost $9.3 billion for the month); military active-duty pay and veterans programs ($5.8 billion); and IRS refund checks ($3.9 billion).

Mike works 70 to 80 hours a week for his paycheck, unlike the Clinton-era welfare program recipients, which costs $4.5 billion more than active duty pay AND veterans programs combined!!!!

Sad

This is so sad. I had no idea that 50% of pregnancies are unplanned, and 40% of those end in abortion. And to think this can become policy based on one person, because of Obamacare. The system was purposefully designed to support a specific agenda, without checks and balances. That is way too much unchecked power.

So pretty

Mack wore this right before Mike went on his first deployment. They had a special date night with Wyatt too. They went to the chip place, our favorite Mexican resturant that is now closed. Addie was only a month old. Oh, the sweet memories.

Temp

Real feel of 118 degrees at 8:00 pm! Wow!!!! I love our Dodge Grand Caravan that we have until Thursday! My Expedition is being fixed! We should buy one, but no towing and no way we can fit more than 6 people in here even without carseats. I sure love the doors, the room in the back, and the kids seem so much closer. Also, they can walk all the way up to the front. The back up camera is cool too. It did rake from 8:40 am until 6:00 pm to finally get tge rental! I think that its crazy and I am going to complain, but I appreciate having a car to use and not bring trapped.

Absurd

What is this world coming to?

This article, http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/07/09/noise-prompts-pennsylvania-restaurant-to-ban-kids-under-6/?test=latestnews#comment , provoked me to contact the restaurant.  I copied my reply below.  I cannot believe how people do not value children anymore.  Are we so important and busy that the cries of a little one cause us to ban them from establishments?  I too have witnessed children that behave awfully, but that should not cause us to look at all kids in a bad light.  Nor should it result in punishing people that do a great job training their children.  I am so sick of hearing people say: they hate their kids, they cannot wait until they start school, they do not want anymore kids, because children are horrible, or the extreme of murdering your daughter so you can get drunk and party!

Mackenzie asks me all the time, why we do not let her do certain things alone.  She uses the example of other children to fight for her cause.  I tell her that I would not let some stranger who knocks on my front door borrow my valuable car, so I definitely will not trust someone I do not know to take my most precious blessing, my children.  I cannot understand how people seem to value material things: jewelry, a vehicle, or a cellphone more than they do their kids.  Thank you God that you have shown me that nothing is more of a blessing than these sweet babes!

To Whom It May Concern:

As a mother of four, very well behaved, children I think it is awful that you banned small children from your restaurant. You are like the disciples in the Bible that were trying to push the little children away from Jesus. Jesus said, "Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for such is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 19:14)." You obviously have no idea that children are a blessing from the Lord. We take our children out to eat and almost always receive compliments on how well-behaved our children are (while flying also).  I, several times, have had people comment that they did not realize we even had children with us. Now we do use common sense. When we went to Washington D.C., we wanted to eat at a nice restaurant, but we made sure it had a children's menu first. I would not take my children into a fine dining restaurant no matter how well-behaved they are. After looking at your menu, pictures, and your price, I would never consider your restaurant to be so upscale that children should not be allowed to eat there. A Ruth's Chris Steak House you are not. I definitely will not be dining at your restaurant, sans kids or not!!!! There are plenty of other restaurants that will take my money, and generous tip, with my well-behaved family.

Sincerely,

Michelle
