Spice Storage Solutions
I am completely frustrated with my crazy spice shelves. I have two small shelves that are crammed full of spices and herbs. It is such an unorganized mess. I cannot even remember what I have in there and it takes forever to find a spice that is not in the front row. If I bump something watch out! Yikes! I searched all over for spice racks, to find that they are very expensive, cumbersome, and too small. The biggest problem for me is our HUGE lack of counter space. I just cannot put a spice rack on my counter. I stumbled across the most magnificent solution ever. Wow, people are so smart and creative; I am glad I can borrow their ideas!
Here is the original article: http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/tips-techniques/best-spice-storage-jars-mason-jars-149261 I love the idea of using Mason jars, but I would still be left with a messy jumble in my cupboard. I will keep this in mind for later though (keep reading and you will see)!
Down towards the bottom of the article, found above (I am really not trying to trick you)! After point number three, I found this link: http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/tips-techniques/how-to-make-a-wallmounted-magnetic-spice-rack-great-ideas-from-our-readers-101525 I am in love with this idea. I have a tile back splash, so I do not want to drill into it. My solution was to do it on the inside of my cupboard or my pantry door (to my delight I was not alone in this thinking). I read all the comments on this page and someone suggested using baby food jars, which would be much cheaper! I also found this on etsy (too expensive for me, but beautiful): http://www.etsy.com/shop/GneissSpice A tip if you go with something like this, attach a pretty piece of cloth to your refrigerator, so you do not scratch it all up. I have experienced this first hand!
My personal favorite: http://found-a-peanut.blogspot.com/2010/03/my-new-spice-rack.html I am going to have to search around for the cheapest jar solutions, but I am thinking small jelly canning jars might work. Refilling my little spice jars is such a pain; reaching in with a tablespoon is really tricky too.
I had thought about this too: http://dugateau.wordpress.com/2011/08/26/spice-rack-operational/ , but I have bad visions of the fun Addie would have with this :) I also have almost no wall space in my kitchen. That is one promise made by my dear husband, a MUCH bigger kitchen in our next house! Yeah! I will hopefully be posting pictures this weekend. Good thing my sweet husband has a long weekend off for Columbus Day! I have not been this excited for awhile!

Mike's toys
They were so excited! Although, I think Mike was more excited to play with his old toys. Oh wait, they were only decorations for his recruiting office :)

Bedtime with Addie
Addie was laying in her bed and said something is poking me. I felt under her covers and said it is your Bible, so she ducks her head under the covers and comes up with her cell phone (Grandpa's old one) and says I'm going to text message before bed. Then she declared I am going to make myself into a fuzzball (wrap up in her covers). I just went to check on her and I asked her why she wasn't text messaging and she told me, I need to get some rest now. She is so cute!
